Dear Klein ISD Families and Community,
 
We have reached the end of an incredible first semester in Klein ISD, and I want to thank you for your continued support of our more than 53,000 students and 7,500 employees.
 
In this Quarter 2 Recap, you’ll learn about:
  • Our students’ impressive Triple-A Achievements,
  • the importance of Funding Our Schools F.I.R.S.T., and
  • recent school safety enhancements.
 
 
 
 
Triple-A Excellence Continues—Academics, Arts, and Athletics
I’m proud to announce that 88 student-athletes from our five high schools have earned Academic All-State recognition from the Texas High School Coaches Association, with eight selected for the Elite Team. To achieve this honor, students must maintain a minimum grade average of 92 and demonstrate excellent character and leadership.
 
We also celebrate the Klein Oak Band advancing to State for the fourth year in a row and the Klein Forest Band leading the City of Houston Thanksgiving Day Parade. Additionally, Krimmel Intermediate’s Chamber Orchestra has been invited to perform at the prestigious Midwest Clinic in Chicago, which gives students the opportunity to perform for several hundred educators and guests from across the country at one of the largest music conventions in the world.
 
 

 

Funding Our Schools F.I.R.S.T.
The 89th Texas Legislative Session kicks off next month. Decisions made in Austin by our elected officials will directly affect our ability to keep providing the high-quality education our Klein ISD students deserve.
 
As always, I want to thank our state elected officials for their service to Texas. In Klein ISD, we’re proud to offer our students so many choices and opportunities to prepare them for their future, and we know our state lawmakers share that same commitment to our kids.
 
It’s no secret that inflation has taken a toll on folks everywhere, from the grocery store to the gas pump. But did you know that even in light of rising costs, it’s been over five years since the state’s per-student funding level, known as the basic allotment, was last increased? No wonder we see so many school districts across Texas making headlines as they faced tough financial challenges at the start of this school year, cutting needed positions, programs, and services for students.
 
And that’s why we need your help to prevent what’s happening all around us from happening here at home, too. We remain optimistic that legislators will take action to address critical school funding needs.

School Safety
In Klein ISD, the safety of our students and staff remains a top priority, and I am deeply grateful for the dedicated efforts of our Klein ISD Police Department and their collaboration with local first responders. A huge thank you to our incredible Klein Police Department, who work 365 days a year and 24 hours a day to Keep Klein Safe!
 
Here’s what’s new in safety for Quarter 2:
  • This fall, our KPD officers and armed guards participated in advanced training sessions to enhance campus security and provided important awareness programs for parents on emerging drug trends and human trafficking prevention. Additionally, they have continued to partner with local agencies, including Precinct 4 Constables, the Harris County Sheriff's Office, and the ongoing support of the FBI.
  • We introduced three new Klein YOUniversity courses focused on safety: Standard Safety Response Protocol, vaping awareness, and human trafficking prevention.
  • Our Chief of Police and Chief of Schools provided their Quarter 2 update on safety at the December Board meeting, discussing how these proactive measures are part of our ongoing commitment to creating a safe and informed community. You can view their report here (2:10:15 - 2:17:22).
