Nick Long Named November Distinguished Alumnus

At the November meeting of the Board of Trustees, Klein High graduate Nick Long was honored as the Distinguished Klein ISD Alumni of the Month. Board Trustee Ronnie Anderson nominated Mr. Long for this honor. He began his educational journey in Klein ISD at Mittelstadt Elementary, attended Kleb Intermediate, and proudly graduated from Klein High School in 2013.

Mr. Long has dedicated his life to his community and the service of others by giving support and hope to individuals on the path to sobriety. With nearly nine years of his own sobriety, Mr. Long’s commitment to his faith, family, and purpose-driven work has become the cornerstone of his life. He is the Founder and CEO of Sharpen Recovery, one of Texas’s largest recovery housing organizations. He also serves as Board President of the Texas Recovery-Oriented Housing Network, advocating for high standards and ethical practices in recovery housing across the state. Driven to make a positive impact in his hometown of Houston, he also founded the Houston Recovery Residence Network. This organization promotes collaboration and elevated standards among local recovery residences.

“Nick’s got a fantastic story, but it’s been a rough ride. He was talking about turning his life around, and that was nine years ago,” Trustee Ronnie Anderson said. “When we saw the progression of [his] efforts, the stories, we couldn’t help but jump in and be alongside, and be a Nick fan. We just couldn’t be more proud of you.”

Mr. Long and his wife, Madison, live in Houston, where they are raising their son, Nicholas Jr., who will soon be nine months old. Nick’s dedication to helping others through meaningful work in the recovery community demonstrates the lasting impact of the values and connections he built during his time in Klein ISD.

“Klein ISD is and will always be special to me, having gone to Klein ISD schools from kindergarten through high school,” Klein ISD alumni Nick Long said. “One thing I’m personally encouraged about when I think about my story is that my parents, teachers, coaches, and the values of Klein ISD were always there to teach me and guide me towards good.”

We are so grateful to have Klein ISD alumni like Mr. Long who are powerful examples of resilience and unwavering commitment to uplifting others. Congratulations, Mr. Long, for all you have achieved and for being named the Klein ISD Distinguished Alumni for November 2024!
