Klein Oak’s Mu Alpha Theta Brings Math Mentorship to Hildebrandt Intermediate

Klein Oak’s Mu Alpha Theta Brings Math Mentorship to Hildebrandt Intermediate

Klein Oak High School's Mu Alpha Theta, a math honor society, has extended its successful peer-tutoring program to Hildebrandt Intermediate, forming a school-to-school partnership that is already making a roaring impact.

The idea of peer tutoring was sparked when Hildebrandt Principal Kimi Williams heard about Klein Oak's peer tutoring success and asked if it could be extended to her students to assist them with preparation for the Math STAAR test. The program was up and running the very next day.

Klein Oak Mu Alpha Theta tutors—high-achieving math students—volunteer their time to work with other Panthers and now, with students at Hildebrandt, building confidence in the younger students and reinforcing their understanding and leadership skills.

"Tutoring at Hildebrandt has been such a meaningful experience," Klein Oak student Rithanya Shanmuganathan said. "It's not just about schoolwork, it’s also about building trust and watching younger students grow. I've learned so much through this opportunity, and it's made me realize how small actions can make a big difference."

Student and tutor Charlotte Mahoney is also excited to contribute to the program and looks forward to continuing her tutoring experience next year.

"Being a tutor at Klein Oak is so rewarding, and I was very pleased to find out that tutoring the young students at Hildebrandt was no different," Charlotte said. "The students at Hildebrandt were so respectful, making it easy for me to demonstrate new ways of understanding concepts and problems. I look forward to continuing this next year!"

Tutors benefit by strengthening leadership, communication, and empathy—skills that go far beyond math class. With enthusiastic support from both schools and strong student participation, this partnership is proving to be a win for everyone involved.

We love to see our older Klein ISD students helping the next generation! Great job, Klein Oak Mu Alpha Theta. We can't wait to see your impact on our community next.
